Abstract

This study aims to verify the effects of different movement patterns on host-parasitoid coexistence in ephemeral patches. We will use a host-parasitoid system consisting of necrophagous Diptera species and their pupal parasitoids. The basal resources used by the host species will be assumed to be ephemeral, supporting only one generation of individuals before completely disappearing from the environment. In our analysis we will apply a graph-theory approach to link patches to landscape and to define species dispersal patterns. The landscape will be characterized by various metrics (e.g. mean number of patches, mean distance between patches, measurement of clustering) and we will examine how the values of these metrics correlate withregional and local persistence of species. We also will include an analysis of spatio-temporal correlations to examine the effects of temporal fluctuations of basal resources and examine how these correlations influence local and regional patterns of species abundance in a metapopulation composed of ephemeral local patches.
