The subject of this work is the study of fluid-structure interactions of rigid and flexible circular cylinders, in number of one and two, similar to risers, by means of experimental and numerical approaches. The main objective is the study of Vortex-Induced Vibrations in such conditions. The student is supervised by Prof. Dr. André Luís Condino Fujarra, of the Departament of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering and co-supervised by Prof. Dr. Celso Pupo Pesce, of the Departament of Mechanical Engineering, both in Escola Politécnica of the University of Sao Paulo. Furthermore, there is a firm cooperation with the dutch Hydrodynamics Research Institute MARIN - Maritime Institute Research Netherlands, with the objective of assisting with the numerical investigations proposed in the research plan.
