Abstract This project intends to examine the Euripidean drama "Phoenician Women" under two aspects: a) investigate how much Euripides changed the Oedipus myth in order to create a tragedy for the Athenian festival in the fifth century B.C. and, hence, observe the connection between myth, religion and polis; and b)wholly translate this piece from Greek to Portuguese, in order to become the first academical translation of the play into Portuguese. As for the investigation, this project plans to go along recent studies of the Greek drama and its relation with religion developed by Richard Buxton and Claude Calame, for example. As for the translation, this project plans to offer an academic version of the play and, then, increase literary studies about it. The Greek edition chosen for this work was the Mastronarde's one (Cambridge, 2004), with all its commentaries. (AU) | |
