The aim of this work is to characterize the gastroprotective, antioxidant and antidiarreic activity of the ethanolic extracts of the plants Myrcia bella and Bauhinia holophylla. We will develop experimental assays using male wistar rats. The ethanol-induced gastric ulcer model will be used to evaluate the gastroprotective effect and choose the lower effective dose of both extracts between the three doses tested 50, 100, 150 mg/kg). The stomachs obtained in this model will be destined to histological and immunohistochemical analyses and to antioxidant assays (SOD and MPO enzymes). The involvement of sulfhydryl compounds, nitric oxide, potassium channels and alfa2 receptors in the gastroprotection will be analysed. The antidiarreic and intestinal motility of the extracts will be also investigated. All results will be statiscally analized by ANOVA followed by Dunnett test with minimum significance of p 0.05
