Brazil, besides being a continental country, is a maritime country, which regionality covers South America and the countries of the west coast of Africa. Given the objectives of the Brazilian Foreign Policy of maintaining the sovereignty and territorial integrity, contribution to regional stability and international integration, the political action of Brazil is guided by the expression of Diplomacy and Defense. The expression of diplomacy consists of diplomatic action as an instrument to promote cooperation and conflict resolution. The expression of Defense has the function of preventing armed conflict through deterrence, or it has the ability to react in a military aggression against Brazil.Considering the South Atlantic region, the cooperation between Brazil and African states has intensified in the last decade, through trade and cultural exchange, with emphasis on the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries. About Defense, the actions of the Brazilian Navy consist: denial of use of the sea, control of maritime areas and projecting power.So, the objective of the research is to analyze the actions of Diplomacy and Defense in the South Atlantic, considering the Brazilian foreign policy orientation for South Atlantic.
