Abstract

Family businesses are prevalent in different sectors of economic activity not only worldwide but also in Brazil, being responsible for a large share of GDP and more than half the jobs created in all countries. But despite its economic and social importance, on average, only 10% of family businesses survive to the third generation because of the difficulties faced by these organizations with regard to the reconciliation of interests between family and business. Within this context, this paper aims to map the influence of family in the management of family businesses in Jaboticabal - SP. To do so will be a multicase study, descriptive and qualitative approach, using as a research technique semi-structured interviews and content analysis. The main results are intended to identify facilitating factors and restrictions in the management of family businesses Jaboticabal and understand the family's influence in the processes of creating, planning, organization, direction, and control of these organizations.
