Abstract

This research project aims to study the effects of ECAP processing on a composite matrix of commercially pure aluminum reinforced with intermetallic particles, obtained by powder metallurgy with consolidation by hot extrusion. The strengthening phase, particles of an intermetallic FeCrAl alloy, has been produced commercially by high energy ball milling, and will be incorporated into the aluminum matrix in a proportion of 15% (in volume). ECAP will be performed at room temperature and at 150 ° C, by Route A with 8 to 12 passes, and its effect on the evolution of the microstructure and mechanical properties of the composite will be evaluated. This project is being submitted to be performed during a research internship abroad, specifically in the Centro de Investigaciones Metalurgicas (CENIM) in Madrid with the collaboration and supervision of Dr. Maria Muñoz-Morris. The CENIM has a structure suitable for the development of all the steps planned in this project, since the obtainment of composite, processing by ECAP, and microstructural and mechanical characterization. The development of this project is very important as a complementary formation of the researcher that is proposing it, who has already good experience in the processing of aluminum alloys by ECAP (FAPESP process 05/03440-5). Besides the expected scientific results, this project will help to strengthen relations between the researcher and his colleagues at the Institute of Science and Technology (ICT) UNIFESP with CENIM' researchers, and contribute to the consolidation of a research group in severe plastic deformation processing techniques in the ICT-UNIFESP.
