Abstract

We propose a mathematical and numerical modeling of fluid flows with complex surface phenomena, with applications in microscale flows. We intend to correct model fluidic membranes, dynamic contact lines, surface tension and Marangoni effects, viscoelastic surfaces and the influence of electromagnetic forces. The project is based on the conservation equations written in the variational form using the virtual work principle, which is suitable for the finite element discretization in an arbitrary Lagrangian-Eulerian framework. The candidate will build a finite element code, both accurate and robust, in order to simulate 2D and 3D flows, as well as to serve as a base for further improvements.
