The marine environment has been recognized as an important source of biologically active secondary metabolites. In this context, the microorganisms isolated from marine algae, such as endophytic fungi have gained importance in recent decades as alternative targets for research on natural products, mainly due to the scarcity of scientific reports published so far. The Organic Chemistry Laboratory of the Marine Environment of FCFRP-USP has been studying the red algae species Bostrychia radicans (Rhodomdelaceae), which allowed the isolation of endophytic fungi associated with it. Thus, we will be made chemical and biological screening of extracts and fractions obtained from cultures of endophytic fungi associated with red algae from B. radicans species. For chemical screening, chromatographic techniques will be used as thin layer chromatography (TLC), high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and hyphenated techniques (LC-MS). In order to establish the biological profile, bioassays will be conducted to evaluate the antibacterial and antitumor potential. The extracts and fractions that will display significant activity and /or interesting chemical profile will be produced in larger amounts for isolation and elucidation chemical structures. So, this project aims to assess the relationship between the secondary metabolites biosynthesized by endophytic microorganisms and the host Bostrychia radicans, as well as obtaining new natural compounds with pharmacological potential from the studied microorganisms.
