Abstract

Currently, the development of titanium alloys for biomedical applications, particularly, for orthopedic applications, has been focused on type beta alloy manufactured with nontoxic and non allergenic elements. This class of alloy possess high strength-to-weight ratio, high corrosion resistance and low elastic modulus. The aim of this research is to prepare titanium alloy samples in the Ti-Nb-Sn system with optimized mechanical properties. Following, surface of these samples will be modify by coating it with TiO2 nanotube film with high biocompatibility. The research will involve the crystal structure and mechanical properties characterization of the substrate and the TiO2 nanotubes.
