Abstract

This proposal aims to use the properties of iron oxide semiconductor nanoparticles to fotopolymerization of PEG by UV radiation nanoparticles excitation. Interfacial polymerization methods are an alternative to grafting of PEG macromolecules on the surface, via reactions of free radical polymerization. Superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles properties are the most investigated magnetic materials for biological applications. In order to increase biocompatibility and chemical as well as colloidal stability of these nanoparticles surface modification is applied. One strategy to modify the particle surface is its functionalization with alkoxysilanes. Alkoxysilanes are compounds to prevent against oxidation and particles dissolution in the physiological environment and provide the surface with functional groups to anchor molecules and macromolecules of biological interest. These compounds prevent the aggregation of nanoparticles and ensure that they can remain dispersed in liquid media under physiological conditions suitable for in biomedicical applications.(AU)
