Individuals spend much of his life in professional occupations. In this regard, it is important to evaluate several determinants for quality of life and health of subjects on several labor functions. In addition, this is approach may be more important when professional activities are mainly hypokinetic. Unfortunately, the few available trials have limitations and show inconclusive results. There are studies that show negative effects of occupation professional type on physical activity level, quality of life and cardiovascular risk. On the other hand, there are studies did not shown any association. Moreover, description of occupation activities has not been clearly defined. In this proposal, the research will be conducted at supermarket cashiers. Knowing that supermarket cashiers have a hypokinetic occupation we hypothesized that this condition may be associated with reduced physical activity level and quality of life as well as increased cardiovascular risk. The few studies on this population has only investigated the profile ergonomic and musculoskeletal diseases associated with the profession. In light of our hypothesis, the only available study showed that supermarket cashiers had musculoskeletal pain in carrying out occupational activities, performed regular physical activity outside work and believed to have an adequate quality of life. To our interest, two goals were established: (1) Assess the physical activity level, quality of life and cardiovascular risk in supermarket cashiers; (2) To determine the association for different levels of physical activity and health-related quality of life and cardiovascular risk factors.(AU)
