This project has the objective to study during the Pos-doctoral period space weather events and their influence on the ionospheric F region in the South American sector. The work is an extension of the work accomplished during the doctorate (financed by FAPESP) for the Brazilian sector. It is proposed to use the ionospheric sounding data in Brazil (Manaus, Palmas and São José dos Campos), Peru (Jicamarca) and Argentina (La Plata and Tucuman), GPS (Global Positioning System) (Manaus, Palmas, São José dos Campos, Ji-Paraná and São Martinho da Serra) data and all-sky images (Palmas and S. J. Campos) of UNIVAP. Also, good possibility exists of using ionospheric data obtained by the receivers of GPS located at different places in Brazil (by the Rede Nacional de Monitoramento Continuo (RBMC) operated by the IBGE) and in Argentina (by Universidade Nacional de La Plata - UNLP). The data to be analyzed will be obtained during varying geomagnetic storm conditions (space weather events), to study the influence on the equatorial, low-latitude and mid-latitude F region. Also, it will be investigated the occurrence of ionospheric irregularities (by GPS, ionosonde and all-sky images) during geomagnetic calm and disturbed period in the equatorial and low-latitude regions. Additionally, the ionospheric data obtained during quiet and disturbed period (geomagnetic storm period) will be compared with the Global Self Consistent Model of the Thermosphere, Ionosphere and Protonosphere (GSM TIP), and Thermosphere Ionosphere Mesosphere Electrodynamics General Circulation Model (TIME-GCM) models.
