Abstract This research project aims to carry on the search for new technologies and methods on studies regarding the relationship between violence and sport. I have been researching on this topic since the beginning of my doctorate in 1995. The proposal has become more favorable now due to the fact that Brazil will soon be in charge of the two most important sports event in the world, which are: The 2014 world cup, and the 2016 Olympics to be held in Rio de Janeiro. This proposal is a unique opportunity to interchange with renowned British sociologists in order to acquire new knowledge and research methodologies in Sociology of Sport. The goals of the research partnership are: 1. Participate in the research "The Sociology of Policing and Police-Community Relations at the London 2012 Olympics." 2. Learn sociological research methodologies for major events. 3. Learn mechanisms of control and prevention of violence in major events. The theoretical base of the British project is the risk theory, this will help us to analyze how the mega-sporting events present a wide variety of risks toward crime, the search will learn and analyze how the police identifies, evaluates, and responds to risks specific to the Olympic crime, how the police and local people identify, interpret and negotiate the specific risks that could jeopardize their relationships, and what are the risks related to games that can arise or remain in Newham after the Olympics.
