Enoch: A prophetic book for the Christ

Abstract

By the fourth century AD was common among Christians, reading the book of I Enoch pseudepigraphic. However, after the Councils of Ephesus and Carthage, which led to the choice of books that regulate the Christian faith, the book faded into oblivion. One of the main advocates against I Enoch was Augustine of Hippo, claiming to be unfounded ideas contained therein. It is clear that some writers of New Testament, like Judas, Peter and Paul made use of I Enoch, and apparently, Christ himself had also made use of it. This research investigates the relationship of Christ with I Enoch, a matter of academic importance, in seeking to obtain insights into the thinking of the historical Jesus, in respect the angelology, demonology and eschatology. The research will lead to new interpretations of the past, helping to better understanding historical figure of Christ and his epistemology.
