Paleoenvironmental reconstruction of the Marília Formation based on studies of paleosols in the municipality of Campina Verde (MG)

Abstract

This present research project aims to a survey of the paleoenvironments of the Marília Formation (Bauru Group) in the Campina Verde municipality, Triângulo Mineiro region, from a study of paleosols present in this formation. The Marília Formation outcrops in the eastern portion of the São Paulo state, in the Triângulo Mineiro region in the Minas Gerais state, and in parts of Mato Grosso do Sul and Goiás states. Sediments sandstone / carbonate this lithostratigraphic units have relevance paleoenvironmental, stratigraphic and paleontological about the knowledge of geological history in the central-southern Brazil. The used methodology is based on bibliographic research, laboratory analysis and recognition of the Marília Formation paleosols. The study of preserved profiles of paleosols in Campina Verde can be a significant tool for inferences about the palaeoenvironments during the late Cretaceous in this region.
