Abstract

Hypertension (HBP), a highly prevalent disorder in the world population, is an important risk factor for cardiovascular disease. The inflammation is involved in hypertension by the action of pro-inflammatory mediators associated with endothelial dysfunction and increased arterial stiffness. It is demonstrated an association between the severity of periodontal disease (PD) and hypertension and also a relationship between changes in calcium metabolism and decreased bone mineral density in hypertensive individuals. However, little is known about the influence of hypertension on PD and bone repair. The purpose of this study is to evaluate in spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR) with the ligature-induced periodontal disease the effects of hypertension in periodontal disease and bone repair, by morphometric analysis of the alveolar bone level changes.(AU)
