Abstract

Cancer is the general term used to characterize the abnormal and uncontrolled cell growth, resulting in dysfunctional cluster cell (tumor). These cells lead to collapse of the tissue, the compression of adjacent structures and severe metabolic consumption, with serious damage to the patient's body, except the abnormal cells are removed or destroyed. Moreover, another important aspect involved in Cancer and which is directly related to the survival of patients is Anorexia-Cachexia Syndrome. It is characterized by loss of lean and fat, psychological distress and worse quality of life. Creatine is a potentially interesting supplement with actions in other chronic diseases. A recent review published by our group shows the promising role of creatine as a treatment in muscle diseases due to their properties in maintaining bone and muscle mass, improved utilization of carbohydrates and fats, especially in glucose tolerance by mechanisms not yet elucidated . But few studies investigated whether creatine has these effects in Cancer.The objective of this study is to investigate whether creatine has beneficial effects in animal cancer, regarding the improvement of tumor caquexia, mainly.
