Introduction: fibers intakes has been associated with prevention of colorectal cancer, breast cancer, cardiovascular disease, duodenal ulcer, in addition to promoting homeostasis in diabetic patients and reduce levels of C-reactive protein in the body. However, publications on the subject in Brazil are scarce and sporadic. Objective: to estimate fiber intake by the population, in regional and socioeconomic strata, highlighting their main food sources. Methods: analysis of data from the 2008-2009 Household Budget Survey (POF) food purchase within seven consecutive days in a household. The sample consisted of 55,970 households. The average daily per capita availability of fiber (and confidence intervals) will be estimated for the country as a whole, to geographical region, urban or rural status of the household, and income stratum. The shares of selected food groups in the total household fiber availability were also calculated for the whole country and income stratum. All test procedures used in this study will be performed with Stata software v.12 SE, taking into account the sample design. (AU)
