Abstract

There are few studies on the role of environmental pollutants in the genesis of premature delivery, both abroad and in Brazil. Environmental pollutants have been linked to childhood respiratory diseases, cardiovascular disease and death. In Brazil there are three studies that relate to pollution with low birth weight. Prematurity, birth before completing 37 weeks of pregnancy is a risk factor for morbidity and infant and neonatal mortality. Its prevalence in Brazil is between 7% and 12%. The objective of this project is to estimate the role of the pollutants sulfur dioxide, ozone, particulate matter in the genesis of premature birth in Sao Jose dos Campos, SP. Is an ecological study with environmental pollutants data obtained from CETESB and data on newborn obtained from SINASC. There will be obtained daily averages of the pollutants and then created total of 7, 15 30 E 45 days before delivery. Statistical analysis will involve logistic regression to estimate the role of pollutants, categorized into quartiles for each exposure period. Will use the computer program SPSS v. 10.0. The significance level is alpha = 5%. (AU)
