School physical education, the basketball and the textbook: evaluation of the learning context

Abstract

Although guaranteed by laws, Physical Education, as a pedagogical practice, in many schools is still based on a traditional conception related to technical teaching of some sports modalities, with features of reproduction of technical movements. This is due, in part, to the great influence that the history of Physical Education provided to the teachers in schools, especially during the period of time in which it was taught according to the sport trend. It was not different in basketball. This sport modality in schools during this period of time had sharp features of the sport model. Nowadays, with new educational proposals of both Physical Education and sport pedagogy, the teaching of basketball should be linked with the concept of movement body culture in which this modality should not be addressed only in a procedural way (knowing how) and the student should be considered as an active subject in this process. One of the ways to propose the relation of movement body culture conception to the teaching of basketball is through the implementation of textbooks that could approach this modality. Therefore, the aim of this study is to evaluate the teaching-learning process of students in the seventh year of elementary school of a public school in the city of Rio Claro, SP. For this, it will be applied a textbook constituted of some basketball contents related to the movement body culture perspective. It will be applied a questionnaire to all students who participate in the study before and after the implementation of the lessons, analyzing also the books answered by the students, and finally, evaluating their learning through a focus group.
