Abstract

The alkaline activation of silica-alumina has been promoting the rediscovery of techniques most likely already used earlier by man and that, in spite of being lost in the labyrinths of history have left their mark and remarkable achievements are admired today. In particular, are known works of classical antiquity, such as the Coliseum and the Pantheon in Roman and the Baths of Caracalla, which were used artificially agglomerated stone materials (concretes and mortars) patenting mechanical behavior and remarkable durability. From the analysis of references, we see that the materials obtained by alkaline activation (or geopolymerization) are generally more resistant on the mechanical point of view, are at increased durability and stability and achieve these levels of behavior much faster than the materials manufactured with the use of Portland cement. It seems clear, therefore, the importance of promoting the development of alternative ligand systems, meeting the same performance objectives, also allow relief of pressure on the environment. The application proposed in this project was the development of ceramic filters made from sponge replica method used in the process of metal casting without the need for sintering of ceramic phase, with gains in energy savings.
