Abstract

The purpose of this project is to develop analytical methods for determination of food dye tartarzine and reactive dye PROCION GREEN HE-4BD, in aqueous samples, using HPLC-DAD and LC-MS-MS. It also intends to analyze the by-products produced by solar, UV light and visible light degradation of both dyes in addition to synthetic sweat degradation of the textile dye. The induced degradation of these dyes will be followed by chromatographic and spectrophotometric techniques and mass spectrometry as well. These results will be vital for the mimicry of important dye reactions whether in the aquatic biota or human body, and they will be used to relate the chemical structure of the by-products to mutagenicity in Salmonella, comet assay and induction of cell death in primate skin fibroblasts results.
