Abstract

This is a study on José de Alencar's publications that were sponsored by the writer itself: Cartas sobre A Confederação dos Tamoios (1856), Cinco Minutos (1856), O Guarani (1857), A Viuvinha (1857), Rio de Janeiro: verso e reverso (1857), O Demônio Familiar (1857), A noite de São João (1857), As asas de um anjo (1858), Mãe (1860), Lucíola (1862), As minas de prata (1863), Diva (1864), Iracema (1865), Expiação (1868) e Ao Correr da Pena (1874). We are going to study those texts' publication history, the relationship between the different kinds of publication and the reading and reception of the texts by the public at that time. At the end we will be defining a period for José de Alencar's publications, which will be called "his own editor", and will analyze it. (AU)
