Abstract

The equine influenza (EI) is an acute respiratory disease of great economic importance, which occurs mainly in animals sports, and has a worldwide distribution, affecting more frequently young animals such as horses, donkeys and mules, in some countries it is considered the most important viral respiratory illness. This disorder is caused by two distinct subtypes (H7N7, formerly equi-1, and H3N8, previously equi-2) of the influenza virus A. The equine influenza virus (EIV) is a single-stranded RNA viruses, segmented negative polarity, enveloped, belonging to the family Orthomyxoviridae, genus Influenzavirus A. This virus mutates constantly of the drift. The phenomenon which occurs more frequently with the H3N8 subtype, which is also responsible for causing more severe respiratory symptoms than the H7N7 subtype. Although the literature reports of human infection by IVE are uncommon, it is known that can occur inter-species transmission of H3N8 subtype, thus highlighting the importance of monitoring this viral infection due to zoonotic potential. This present work aims to optimize the technique of serological hemagglutination inhibition (HI) with different treatments for nonspecific inhibitors from sera, which will be treated with red blood cells absorb 50% kaolin 20% associated with the absorption of red blood cells, potassium periodate / trypsin to the hot red blood cells associated with the absorption and treatment only with potassium periodate / trypsin to hot. The standards used are strains of equine influenza viruses isolated from horses kept in MDCK cell culture: A/Eq1/SP/56 (H7N7) and A/Eq2/SP/1/85 (H3N8).
