A trial will be conduced at the Faculty of Agriculture and Veterinary Sciences of UNESP University in Jaboticabal to study the benefits of using the commercial biological activator Micropan Biogas® in anaerobic digestion of beef cattle and swine wastes. In the first part of the experiment will be performed the analysis of pH, dry matter (DM), organica matter (OM) and alcalinity to characterize the substrates. Then will be used 30 batch digesters, in order to determine the best dose of Micropan Biogas® to be added to the substrates. The hidraulic retention time (HRT) in the batch digesters is 70 days. Periodically will be calculated the produced biogas volume and the amounts of CH4 and CO2 in gas chromatograph Finigan GC-2001 equipped with Porapak Q columns, molecular sieve, and thermal conductivity detector. At the end of 30 days will be chosen for the second phase of the experiment the amount of product for each waste that provided the highest specific biogas production (SBP). In the second phase of the experiment, 12 continuos digesters will be used. In the second phase the analyses mentioned above will be repeated more frequently in order to monitoring the evolution of the continuous process. All data collected will be analyzed with the SAS ® software
