Abstract

The "Child and Adolescent" Law (ECA) improved important changes in how children and adolescents are seen socially in Brazil. At the same time, it started a health reform process that culminated in the creation of the Unified Health System and the process of Psychiatric Reform, which radically changed the situation of mental health. The health care professions are historically undervalued and poorly invested in. For example, the area of child and adolescent care, culturally associated with women, is quite devalued. We intend to investigate the life history of professionals who belong to the Psychosocial Care Center (CAPS) in São Paulo in order to, first of all, know who is responsible for the care of the juvenile population today. Secondly, we are looking for reasons which led them to join the Mental Health Community. Finally, we will investigate which kind of training they received. The research will take place in a CAPSIs in São Paulo. There will be a roadmap of observation to know the institution. Then, from the method of oral history of life, there will be interviews conducted and recorded with workers in the Psychosocial Attention Center.
