Abstract

The lack of appropriate technologies and greater awareness of the possibilities of use of certain construction materials has generated, often erroneous interpretations in the construction market, particularly when searching for alternative solutions aligned to the new concepts of sustainability. As an example, may be cited the adobe, which is an ancient building material, widely used in various parts of the world. The raw materials needed for its production (land and water) are easily found in nature. Low energy cost, its manufacturing process is simple and requires no cooking, setting up an appropriate technology fully inserted in the precepts of sustainable construction, and at first no need for specialized professionals for your cooking. This material, however, presents some instability in the presence of volumetric moisture, so that, trying to remedy this problem, we sought an affordable alternative, resulting as an option considering the possibility of incorporating a small amount of cement and also waste concrete. It is known that for making adobes, the ideal is to use the sandy soils and makes recycled aggregates are quite interesting because they can be prepared so that its size be similar to a coarse sand, thereby providing products of better quality. Moreover, the generation of construction debris is now a serious national problem, especially in big cities and major cities. It is expected, thus contributing towards improving this traditional construction technique, providing at the same time, energy saving in housing production and also in post-occupation, making possible the reuse of the waste generated in the construction industry.
