The fish stocks are in decline worldwide. Brazil is not an exception to this rule. With regard to fishing for snook (Centropomus spp.), The crisis in the Ilha Grande Bay(southern coast of the state of Rio de Janeiro) stems from the fact that this is a fish with high commercial value, great social importance and have your periodreproduction for a "vintage". Knowing the biology of target species such as snookis essential for the effective management of fish stocks. The objective of this paperis to obtain knowledge about the biological and ethnobiological reproduction, food composition, as well as aspects of fishing this important fishery resource. To do so,will be conducted Systematic collection of fisheries landings in Paraty to the macroscopic analysis of gonads and stomach contents. This work is already being done with support from FAPESP thematic project 2009/11154-3, with data collection in progress.
