Abstract

Introduction: Lipid disorders represent one of the main risk factors for cardiovascular disease and particularly for the Metabolic Syndrome. Therefore, the diet is an important tool to modify the components of Metabolic Syndrome. Of the various nutrients studied, the impact of omega-6 on these components is not yet entirely clear. Objective: To evaluate the effect of supplementation with omega-6 on the prevalence of Metabolic Syndrome in adults. Methods: 100 adults will be assessed intervention/group, of both sexes between 30 and 74 years. From this sample, will be assessed dietary habits (24-hour dietary recall), anthropometry (weight, height, waist circumference,% body fat and % lean mass), the level of physical activity, lipid profile (cholesterol and fractions and triglycerides), the detection of glucose and insulin, the size of the lipoproteins HDL and LDL, the determination of the content of C-reactive protein, analysis of the composition of fatty acids and blood pressure measurements. The classification of risk for cardiovascular disease will be done by searching the records and the sum of the Framingham Risk Score. Expected Results: With the completion of this study will help to identify the role of neutral, positive or negative consumption of omega-6 on the components of Metabolic Syndrome and its prevalence in adults.
