This research aims to contribute to the study of the discussions about what is being called the creative economy and creative cities. It is intended to gather material about the history of literature and discussions about the creative economy and the application of this concept in the cities. We will take as a case study applying these concepts in the city of Rio de Janeiro relating them to the city's preparations for the 2014 World Cup and 2016 Olympics, including the Porto Maravilha Project.
