Abstract

Research on accurate methods of diagnosis for cardiovascular diseases (CVDs), especially in the diagnosis of Myocardial infarction (MI) has intensified both in the clinic, and in academia, since MI is the major cause of CVD deaths. Aiming to contribute to the development of integrated platforms for rapid diagnosis, this project proposes the fabrication of an immunosensor device able to detect troponin I, a candidate biomarker for myocardial infarct. The idea is to apply a field effect transistor (FET) as signal transducer for specific detection of troponin I. The field effect based Immunosensors have several advantages including high sensitivity and possibility of production in large scale. We believe that the idea of combining field effect devices with high-affinity antibody-antigen is promising for the fabrication of a immunological biosensor capable of conferring an accurate diagnosis of MI in an low cost manner.
