Comparison among panoramic radiographs and hand-wrist radiographs in observation of athletes of bone growth categories based on football field from the maturity of permanent teeth

Abstract

Sports institutions as well as investing in the future fitness of athletes also value medical care, physiotherapy, nutrition, psychological, education, and dentistry thereof; entirely understand that a healthy individual will result in better performance in sports activities. The speed of bone growth and development of each athlete influences their stay in the institution, the slower performing the process of growth / skeletal maturation in the athlete, the greater the probability of obtaining the desired responses to the work and training in this sport. Chronological age is not a sufficient criterion for the analysis of growth and development. The skeletal discrepancies need to be treated during the response of bone tissue, because otherwise, the desired alteration may not be effective. The proposal is to compare the bone growth of athletes from the basic categories of the football field of the Sao Paulo Football Club from panoramic radiographs and radiographs of the hands and wrists of young male athletes aged 13 to 15 years. The present study will be analyzed 120 radiographs 60 panoramic radiographs and 60 carpals, such as X-rays already part of the dental-medical record of the athlete. For the interpretation of panoramic radiographs will be used an illustration of eight stages of mineralization Nolla, proposed by Nicodemo et al. (1974), and also the table of the chronology of mineralization of permanent teeth. For the interpretation of radiographs of the hand and wrist, will be used the method of Eklof and Ringertz (ER) (1967), which is based on ten centers of ossification, will be studied here.(AU)
