Abstract

The authors recognize that the TB patient relatives represent an important institution for the education of subjects in social, ethical, and policy areas of knowledge. In the health sector, there is a scientific consensus about the relevance of this institution in the management of care, and the inclusion of TB patient relatives represents a source of stimulation to them and the possibility patients with tuberculosis elaborate a new horizon. The study proposal is to evaluate the social stigma regarding TB in the context of patient relatives follow-up at health care facilities in Ribeirao Preto/SP. The authors will carry out a descriptive epidemiological study. The subject population will be composed of relatives of patients diagnosed from January 1 to July 31, 2011. The authors will consider a probability-sampling scheme, 110 subjects will compose it. The researchers will consider a validated questionnaire with open and closed questions. The questions were organized in sequential form and it was grouped according to the dependent variables under study, being social-economic characterization, clinical and epidemiological information, and knowledge of relatives about the disease; the tool of research also includes attitudes and stigma scale. In the analysis plan, the authors apply the logistic regression, chi-square test for comparison of frequencies, and Multiple Correspondence Analysis (MCA). The study may contribute to the innovation of care practices and involve TB patient relatives in this process.(AU)
