Between fiction and reportage: the writing of Joel Silveira in the years 1930 to 1940

Abstract

In the years 1930 and 1940, Joel Silveira (1918-2007) appropriated tools in the field of fiction journalistic production, mainly by using a satirical rhetoric in the writings that addressed the political universe Brazil. From this interest, I will analyze the language that the writer worked lined with a humor and sarcasm in a written narrative from various genres such as essay, novel, chronicles, tale, report. On the trail of those languages, I outline the methodology used in understanding these writings, evaluating them in political debate and criticism, in order to understand the plots to which they were associated. So, I explore the relationship between the construction of a historical memory and their representations of this period, in language that connects the genres, especially when considering the various representations introduced by his texts, which portray the main themes and events in the country and Western world an eminently political.
