Abstract

The present project´s objective is to investigate how teachers are, currently, discoursed about, by the State of São Paulo´s printed media and the consequences of such discourse for their identities´ (de)construction. In order to do so, we based ourselves on the theoretical-methodological presuppositions of the French matrix´ Speech Analysis, that allow us to evidence the notions about subject, speech, meaning production and identity´s construction, as it comprehends the language construction based on ideology and on the social, historical and cultural contexts. When we think about teaching identity, we use Stuart Hall´s (2006) studies that proposes: "instead of considering identity as something finished, we should consider identification as an ongoing process". Emphasizing the journalistic speech, we intend to show how it can affect the teaching identity, once it is in a constant construction process. The methodological process will be constituted by a corpus composed by the collected depositions of teachers from different inner cities of the state of São Paulo, Brazil, concerning their impressions and comprehension on the printed media discourse about them. This research´s corpus will be also composed by articles from the city of Ribeirão Preto´s newspapers and from two other major, nationally circulated newspapers, of the years 2009, 2010 and 2011. It is important to emphasize that the Speech Analysis seeks to unveil, in the linguistic-discursive events, the historical determination of the meaning processes, considering the language production´s conditions and operation.
