Abstract

Disease non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is presented today as an important cause of morbidity in developed countries and represents a variety of liver diseases that ranges from pure steatosis to cases of more severe as nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) and cirrhosis. The incidence of fatty liver and NASH have increased significantly with the obesity epidemic. NASH is considered a hepatic manifestation of metabolic syndrome and its pathogenesis may include insulin resistance, hypertension, abnormalities in glucose and lipid metabolism, oxidative stress, triggering inflammation and fibrosis. According to the above, the present study aimed to compare the nutritional status, oxidative stress, lipid and glucose profiles among subjects with NASH and overweight individuals to relate possible risk factors with the development of NASH.
