Caprine mastitis in the Southest of São Paulo: risk factors: etiological determinants agents: bacterial susceptibility to the antimicrobial

Abstract

Mastitis is an inflammatory process that occurs in the mamary gland, it's caused mainly by bacterial agents. This disease is responsible for the decrease in production and quality of the milk and induce economic losses to the goat breeders. However, the specific knowledge about the caprine mastitis is poor if compared to the vast studies in the bovine milk production field. Therefore, the goal of this research is to investigate the mastitis etiology trough determination of the risk factors, specific etiologic agents and it's in vitro susceptibility to the antimicrobial. The experimental part will be realized in two stages. In the first one the risk factors associated to the cleaning procedures, hygiene and milking equipment age will be determinate through the filling of two questionnaires, after an interview of the employees responsible to the milking management and farm administrators, as well the visual observations realized during the visits. Moreover the clinic exam of the mammary glands will be realized to determinate the risk factors associated to the animal. In a second stage, the milk samples collection will be realized aseptic for bacterial exam and antibiogram of the positive cultivated samples. The risk factors will be evaluated trough logistic regression models. The frequency of the etiologic agents isolated will be calculated as well as the percentage of bacterial species resistant and sensibility to each antimicrobial. (AU)
