Given the continuing need to answer questions about the interactions between the management of tropical pasture grasses, dietary supplementation with sources of fats and animal performance, as well as mitigation of enteric methane production of beef cattle, this study aims to evaluate the influence of sward management and supplementation with fat sources in the rearing of beef steers in rainy and different termination strategies in the dry season. The experiment is divided into two phases, the first covering the rearing of calves in the rainy season grazing on Brachiaria brizantha cv. Marandu in three heights (15, 25, 35 cm) with three supplementation strategies lipid sources (soy beans, protected fat, mineral salt). The second step is the termination of the animals during the dry season using two strategies (grazing or confined). The animals will receive diets with the same fat sources of the previous phase until slaughter. Measurements of the amount of enteric methane produced will be held at all stages, growing and finishing, in order to define the best strategy for management of grazing and supplemental feeding on the reduction in enteric methane emissions.
