Abstract

Here we propose a plan to train and educate a bright and motivated undergrad (IC) student in a new state of the art hybrid trap, recently developed in our lab. At same time, this proposal will help us to complete the characterization and optimization of our new apparatus. The plan involves both experimental and numerical modeling work, by the student, and aims at assisting in developing new evaporative cooling strategies for the specific parameters of this new type of trap (combining optical and magnetic traps).
