Abstract

It is well established in literature the relationship between the reduction of iron levels and the development of RLS as well as the relation between pregnancy (hormonal, psychomotor, and metabolic) and the development of RLS. However, little is known about the consequences of iron reduction in the long term. Evaluating possible repercussions in the behavior of the locomotive activity in offspring of rats with a reduction of iron in the diet (anemic) is, therefore, of great importance to understand the pathophysiology of the disease and its relationship with the prenatal period. Objective: to evaluate the locomotive activity of offspring of rats submitted to an iron diet (anemic) from weaning. Methods: rats (mothers) since weaning are submitted to two different iron diets (5 ppm* of iron for the restricted group - anemic and 50 ppm* of iron for the group diet standard). The offspring of mothers who had suffered restriction from the iron will be the experimental group and those who had not suffered restriction from the iron will be the control group. With 60 and 90 days of life, the offspring will be evaluated for locomotive behavior (open field) and protein expression of the tyrosine hydroxylase (western blot).(AU)
