Abstract

This project is primarily linked to the area of cultural history of education and has as it main goal to do the history of evaluation practices in the state of São Paulo, understood as the exams that make it possible for the student to be promoted to the following year. Such practices have been under considerable modification during the XXth Century, as we can see that in the 1960´s teachers of public schools weren´t responsible for attributing results to their own students. These results were given by the school inspector or by external examiners. It is intended in this project to analyse the educational evaluation from three points of view: as an element for the control of the teaching work, as a part of the specialized knowledge on teaching that were spreaded during the XXth. Century and as actual practice of teachers in their classrooms. For this particular project, the Teachers´Journal will be used as a source, considering the approach of Roger Chartier on the history of reading. The temporal limestones of this project are the dates of the beginning and the end of the publication: 1934 to 1965.
