Myxozoa parasites of Pseudoplatystoma corruscans (pintado), Salminus franciscanus (dourado) and Brycon orthotanea (matrinxã) from São Francisco River Basin, MG

Abstract

Parasites of the Phylum Myxozoa are cosmopolitan and infect fish in various regions of the world. So far are known about 2,300 species, which infect mainly fishes from natural environment and fish farm, being some species responsible for high mortality rates in many parts of the world. This work proposes to develop study concerning morphological and molecular taxonomy and parasite-host interaction of parasites of the phylum Myxozoa found infecting pintado (Pseudoplatystoma corruscans), dourado (Salminus franciscanus) and matrinxã (Brycon orthotaenia) from the natural environment in the river basin São Francisco, region of Pirapora, MG. The study of parasite-host interaction will be performed by ultrastructural analysis and histopathology. The taxonomic study will be performed by morphological analysis using light microscopy, transmission electron microscopy and sequencing of the 18s rDNA gene.
