Abstract

Mucositis is characterized by the presence of inflammatory lesions of the gastrointestinal tract resulting from the use of chemotherapy and / or radiotherapy. These therapeutic procedures increase the risk of local and systemic infections, compromise additional treatments and the quality of life of patients. Although the clinical and pathophysiological aspects of this disease are known, there are few Brazilian and international publications with studies aimed at identifying the prevalence of this condition in patients undergoing this type of procedure, as candidates for hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT). The aim of this study is to identify the prevalence of the occurrence of mucositis in patients undergoing HSCT and, secondly, perform data collection and epidemiological profile of patients undergoing this procedure. Its specific objectives include: 1. Select data records of patients with (G1) and without (G2) the clinical manifestation of mucositis, 2. Raise epidemiological and clinical profile of patients undergoing this procedure (HSCT). This project was approved by the Ethics Committee of the Faculty of Medicine of Sao Jose do Rio Preto (opinion 106/2011). Will be selected at least 200 records of patients who underwent HSCT at the Unit of Bone Marrow Transplantation, Hospital de Base, São José do Rio Preto, regardless of the underlying disease. Will be filled in a form of epidemiological data for each record found. The data will be separated into two groups. Group 1 (G1) include patients with manifestation of mucositis after HSCT and group 2 (G2) will be composed of patients without manifestation of mucositis after HSCT. Annotated data will also be clinical and epidemiological profile of patients (previous therapies, underlying diseases, sex, age at the time of the procedure, ABO, RH, Kell, and others). The results will contribute to identify the prevalence of this occurrence in such patients, allowing a glimpse of the magnitude of its occurrence, and provide subsidies for the development of further research.
