Abstract

Coastal areas are considered environmental systems of high environmental fragility, due to its location on the ocean -continent interface. The Long Island, located on the southern coast of the state of São Paulo, was the last major event responsible for the current configuration of the São Paulo coast, as stated Ab'Saber (2003 ). Although this is in an Area of Environmental Protection ( APA ) and harboring environmental systems and forms of relief fairly preserved, the island goes through a process of parceling through lots and environmental degradation of its landscape, which arouses the need for a study of recognition of land forms and processes that generate such forms. Thus, based on Environmental Geomorphology and General Systems Theory, the main objective of this research is to analyze the changes in the geomorphological dynamics of Long Island, by understanding the evolution of landforms and their generating processes, with the aim to identify the changes occurring in the landscape of the island and help with planning applied to coastal areas. To do so, it will be necessary to perform geomorphological mapping of the study area in different temporal scenarios. Mappings for use and occupation of land will also be conducted in order to identify the changes occurring in the landscape of Long Island. From the results obtained, we intend to contribute to the environmental and urban planning in coastal areas, so that there is a better use of the use and occupation of land, while considering the natural weaknesses of the study area and environmental systems great importance are preserved.
