Electrical activity of orbicularis oculi muscle before and after installation of ocular prosthesis

Abstract

The eyeball lost does not just implicate the esthetics, but also the patient's facial muscle tone once the eyeball's default can atrophy that ones. The ocular prosthesis in spite of give back the principal function to his owner, in other words, the vision, has the objective of full up the ophthalmic cavity restoring the muscle tone. So the purpose of this research is check the electrical activity of the orbicularis oculi muscles before and after the installation of the ocular prosthesis that was submitted to an one-sided eyeball enucleation. To do this, 30 volunteers submitted to an one-sided eyeball enucleation will be selected through clinical examination and anamnesis. The electromyographic signal will be done with the help of the electromyography Myosystem BR1 on 4 clinical situations: rest (R), regular open and closing eyelid (ROCE), fast open and closing eyelid (FOCE) and clenching (C). Examinations before and after 7, 30 and 60 days of installation use of the one. The ones of the second group will be submitted to the electromyography examination once because they are used just as control for first group. The results get will be submitted to adherence to the normal curve and applied appropriate statistical test to comparison of the average values of the electrical muscle activity alteration. (AU)
