The puerperium is beginning with the finished of delivery, after placental expulsion, this period has not temporality defined, but it stipulated between 6 or 8 weeks after its initiation. The postpartum period is marked by physiological involution of pregnancy, the maternal conditions returns similar to before pregnancy, this is a phase of intense psychological and social changes that become these mothers vulnerable, requiring more attention from professionals and families involved in care of this. However, the postpartum period has only been treated with greater relevance in the scientific study and health care professionals' when this period deviated from normality or when the puerpera developed a pathological pattern. Front of this disregard of the professional staff that his speech in standard biomedical, these mothers prefer to seek help in social networks and family context. The practice also shows that beliefs in selfcare of puerperal have relevance in their daily and often overlaps to the guidance received at the health institution. Thus, even with the significant scientific and the midia advance, this is not seem to influence selfcare women's practices during the postpartum period. Facing the situation exposed, the design of this study was generated with a qualitative approach, and overall goal of understanding self-care practices of women in the postpartum period. As reference for analysis, will employ the model of Cultural Competence Purnell and collective subject discourse as a method of treatment and presentation of data to be obtained from individual interviews conducted with women in the postpartum period. It is expected with the end of the study contribute to the institutions linked to maternal health and also to the education, pointing new ways to biossociocultural care in the postpartum. (AU)
