The fluoroquinolone norfloxacin is a second generation derivative of nalidixic acid. In Brazil this drug is approved for human and animal use, the same being sold in Brazil in tablet dosage form by several laboratories, including: Norfloxacin® (Union Chemical), Flox® (Hexal) Floxacin® (Merck Sharp & Dhome) among others. Its measurement marketed for human use is 400 mg. The norfloxacin was released commercially in Brazil by the National Sanitary Surveillance Agency (ANVISA), on 06/30/1983. This antimicrobial agent has a good pharmacokinetics with good oral bioavailability. The norfloxacin, like other fluoroquinolones, act by inhibiting DNA gyrase, the enzyme complex that participates in the process of DNA replication and also inhibit bacterial topoisomerase IV type of bacterial DNA. You are in literature several scientific studies related to chemical and physical characteristics, dissolution and development of analytical methods for norfloxacin, however, these methodologies are not always appropriate, inexpensive and fast, so the new studies is necessary . This research have to develop new analytical methods for norfloxacin, including spectrophotometric analysis, chromatographic, capillary electrophoretic, microbiological, and perform forced degradation study for the dosage form tablets.
