Abstract

Water use is directly related to human population growth and constitutes a limiting factor for the survival and development of all forms of life. The limnological monitoring is an important tool for environmental management, providing information to diagnose the water quality of lotic and lentic systems, pointing in this way, the main effects responsible for the degradation of water resources. Thus it is possible to propose recovery steps and management systems for these environments. The Barra Bonita reservoir is located in the central region of São Paulo, in the Middle Tietê Superior Basin, and this aquatic system is subject to various anthropogenic activities potentially impacting the environment. In this context, there is a growing need to identify the problems caused by the human impacts on water resources. This diagnosis allows proposal planning in order to preserve the quality and quantity of water from Barra Bonita Reservoir. (AU)
