Abstract

Neutrophils are the first defense line of the organism to bacterial infections, and their recruitment and generation of reactive oxygen and nitrogen species (ROS and RNS) are essential to combat the microorganisms. In spite of the important microbicidal role, this substances may oxide cellular components and interfere with their function. The ability of nitric oxide and peroxinitrite to reduce neutrophil migration to the focus of inflammation/infection is well recognized, but the action of superoxide and others ROS in neutrophil recruitment differs among several studies. Since sepsis is defined as a systemic inflammatory response to infection and characterized by significant oxidative stress, we will use the cecal ligation and puncture (CLP) as sepsis model in mice gp91phox knockout and wild type to verify whether Nox2 derived work in the modulation of neutrophil migration to the primary focus of infection. Also we propose to analise the possible mechanisms envolved on this process. (AU)
